The guy I bought it from said it is a class five race motor I really didn't believe him but it sure seems to run strong
After having it apart I can't believe it...
High compression, radical cam, heavy duty dual valve springs, it's a very nice motor.

After finally deciding that the motor was all right I figured that it was time to spend a little money. The engine was so ugly that I still had a hard time believing the story that it was a race motor but it sounded so great that I would throw caution to the wind and dress it up. So I got out my credit card and ordered a chrome fan shroud and cylinder tins, aluminum valve covers and crank pulley. It already had a chrome alternator stand and oil filler, so a chrome alternator pulley and a fancy distributor cap and we’re all set. I cleaned the engine block and transaxle thoroughly and gave them a coat of metallic gray paint. I cleaned and repainted the headers to look nearly new. Next came some new wires and plugs and presto, a race motor. Well not really but it sure looks better.

Eventually I had a professional check out the motor and he got it running great and gave it a clean bill of health. Tom Del Priore at Nicks 996-4611 in Sonoma is a great guy and went out of his way to help me out.

With the engine cleaned up and ready to go I was ready to get back to work on the chassis. Two weeks have passed and I only have three months to go to get it ready for the picnic.
