VW Pedal Car

I hand built everything for this little pedal car last winter when I couldn't afford to work on my Roadster.

It is a pedal car body that I found at a swap meet. It is an all steel body that houses a 3 1/2 hp motor, a jack shaft and a disc brake. It also has a functional stainless steel stinger exhaust that I hand built from Stainless tubing. I built the frame from 1" round tubing in the shape of a VW floor pan. The front axle is shaped like a VW front end.

I had a lot of fun building it but cramming everything into the body was like building a ship in a bottle.

It’s a handful to drive with T-handle steering and a hand built aluminum wing for a seat. It does 22 mph, not really killer speed but with a 16 ½” wheelbase it’s a thrill anyway. The wheelie bars are not only functional but also necessary.

It gets a lot of attention when I take it to shows. Everybody loves it. I haul it to shows behind my Roadster in a little Teardrop Trailer that I built. It has won awards at every show I have taken it to and it has also been pictured in several magazines.
